Thinking about upgrading your laptop? What sort of things are you looking for? Excellent battery life? A responsive CPU? How about built-in intelligence? Microsoft Copilot is the next big thing in the PC world…

Businesses across practically every sector were shown that the future really is here with the launch of Copilot for Microsoft 365; Microsoft’s very own artificial intelligence sidekick. Integrating advanced AI capabilities into one of the world’s most effective and easy-to-use productivity suites instantly transformed the way we work, helping us all communicate, collaborate, and carry out tasks in a more efficient and confident way. From drafting emails to summarising meetings, it’s been transformative.

While Copilot has already been rolled out across Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, and more, many of us have been asking the same question: when will this functionality be extended beyond the confines of the 365 environment?

Well, it may be happening more quickly than you think. In fact, Microsoft recently announced that Copilot will soon be built into a number of Dell, Lenovo, Samsung, HP, Acer, and Asus laptops. It will become a core feature of the devices, bringing Microsoft Copilot into everyday computer operations.

Introducing Copilot+ PC

The new range of Copilot+ PCs by Microsoft and their partners come with Copilot AI capabilities integrated directly into the device itself. Overall, there will be over 40 distinct AI models working within Windows 11, coming together to extend Copilot for 365 to laptop devices themselves.

What does this mean for you? It means that the helping hand Copilot currently provides won’t just be available when you’re in your 365 environment. A whole new selection of activities you carry out on your PC – even if you’re offline – will be supported by AI. This is expected to generate a whole host of new experiences, as well as transform the way we use common PC tools and applications.

New features

Although Copilot+ PCs are still remarkably new, they’re already empowering users to achieve more through a range of exciting new features. The biggest and boldest of those now available include:

1. Recall

Always forgetting which directories you store your files in? Can’t find that incredible website you used last month? No problem! The recall feature tracks everything you do on your laptop, and it’s ready to help you recall anything – at any time! The AI-powered search functionality looks back through all your PC activity to help you find whatever you’re looking for, whenever you need it.

2. Cocreator

Local applications like Paint and Photos are getting a makeover with the Cocreator feature, which brings Copilot’s AI functionality to your creative tools. It’s designed to work alongside your own skill and imagination, enabling you to refine your own work with the help of artificial intelligence. You can use text-based prompts to generate ideas, edit what you have, and further develop your drawings.

3. Live Captions

Thanks to integrated neural processing units (NPUs), the new Copilot+ PCs will be able to instantly translate anything on your PC into English, from over 40 different languages. Say there’s a podcast you’re really interested in, but it’s in German. No problem. The Live Captions feature will translate it in real time, so you can listen, learn, and enjoy without encountering any language barriers.

The new era of AI

Limited Copilot+ PCs are already on the market, with even more coming shortly. So keep your eyes peeled, and get ready to embark on an exciting AI adventure and enjoy a range of new experiences.
